Between weddings, anniversaries, and holidays, there's no shortage of occasions throughout the year when you may be in the market for new jewelry. But if you're hoping to avoid overspending on these celebrations, you may want to skip the stop at Tiffany & Co and turn to more affordable jewelry brands.

Baublebar is one of the most popular destinations to find trendy, affordable jewelry, custom gifts, and personalized accessories. The brand is also a favorite amongst celebrities: Blake Lively has documented her love of the brand on Instagram stories, while the 'RHOBH' stars recently showed off their matching Baublebar blankets in season 13. Curious if the brand was worth all the celeb-backed hype, I tested out several of its bestsellers, including a few custom pieces—here's what I thought.

What is Baublebar?

Baublebar was founded in 2011 by Amy Jain and Daniella Yacobovsky, who aimed to create high-quality, on-trend jewelry at a good value. While the brand started out with costume jewelry, it has expanded to include fine jewelry, phone cases, ornaments, and other accessories. In 2017, Baublebar teamed up with Target to create the Sugarfix by Baublebar line, allowing the brand to reach even more customers, with all pieces priced under $30.

What we liked about Baublebar

Lots of customizable options

I tested four custom items from Baublebar: the Sugar Coated Custom Ornament ($50), the Mini Custom Nameplate Necklace ($158), the Gold Custom Block Ring ($148),and the Criss Cross Custom Blanket ($98). Any one of them would make an excellent gift that's sure to be cherished. In fact, with such a massive customizable selection, I'd name Baublebar one of the best places to buy personalized gifts.

My personal favorite? The custom blanket, which is soft, easy to both wash and fold, and makes for an incredibly cozy throw atop a bed or sofa—it's currently placed on the back of my desk chair as I write this.

Fun collaborations

Baublebar has teamed up with everyone from Disney to the NFL on adorable jewelry collections. Recently, the brand also collaborated with Erin Andrews on more sporty jewelry to help fans celebrate their favorite football teams. Whether I'm headed to Disney World or Gillette Stadium for a big game, Baublebar would be one of my first shopping destinations to get some eye-catching accessories to complete my look with.

Budget-friendly prices

Prices for Baublebar jewelry currently start as low as just $18 for an ear cuff and go up to $325 for a Maya Brenner necklace. Most prices hover around the $30-$60 range, making it an affordable spot to stock up on jewelry or pick up a few pieces to stay on top of the latest trends. The brand also frequently offers sales and is constantly adding discounted styles to its sale section.

What we didn't like about Baublebar

Some pieces aren't designed to last

A general rule of thumb when buying jewelry is that you get what you pay for. I'd say this adage rings true for Baublebar—the price reflects the quality there. After wearing my Baublebar jewelry for a few weeks, a small diamond fell out of the nameplate necklace, and the gold plating on the posts of the Luna Gold Earring Set ($108) began to wear off, which irritated my ears a bit.

That said, I've worn the Bennett Gold Tennis Necklace ($148) for weeks on end with no tarnishing, and it's become a staple in my collection. To help your Baublebar pieces last long term, I wouldn't wear them in the shower or for long periods of time to protect the gold plating.

Is Baublebar worth it?

Yes, just don't expect the pieces to last a lifetime

Whether you're shopping for an upcoming vacation, wedding, or special occasion, Baublebar has one of the best selections of in-style jewelry that won't break the bank. While I don't expect the majority of its pieces to last forever, the quality of the jewelry still met my expectations given the price. Whenever I'm in the market for a festive pair of earrings, a fun statement piece, or a custom gift, I'll continue to head to Baublebar to check out its new collections.
