What is Galentine’s Day after all? Well, according to Urban Dictionary it is celebrated on February 13, the day before that other made-up holiday (ahem, Valentine’s Day). It’s a day for celebrating the love you have for your lady friends, whether they’re single or not. Basically, it’s a day dedicated to showering your closest friends with love and attention… more than you do every other day. Sounds good to me! It’s not likely to pop up in your iCal as an official holiday or anything, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth celebrating. I am down for a good brunch or girl’s night out any time! But seriously, this made up holiday was created by a character on Parks & Recreation back in 2010. Basically, the fictional character, Leslie, got her besties together for brunch and it was unofficially added to every girl’s calendar.
Now you may be thinking, “How do I celebrate Galentine’s and what do I need to do?” Good thing is, there’s no wrong way to do it! It could be over brunch (like Leslie), over wine & apps, mani-pedi’s at a spa or popping a bottle of champagne on a roof top deck without the men for a few hours! Don’t you worry, I am here to give you a little inspo for goodies, crafts and decor! Some fun things that will add a personal touch when throwing a great Galentine’s Day soiree are:
1* Sending pretty printed invites to your squad- sure, sending a group text to all your gal pals would work but actual paper invites make it feel more special.
2* Decorate- enlist 1-2 of your guests to come over one or two hours before the shin-dig to help you set up. Some ideas for decorations are pre-made banners, chalkboard paper roll, confetti, pom poms, cake stands, garlands, flower arrangements and hand made placement cards.
3* Sweet Treats for yourself (and your gals)- this is a day to indulge, so go all out on the sweet treats but add in some savory options too. Be sure to put together a killer spread for everyone to enjoy!
4* Send your BFF’s home with party favors- don’t let your friends go home empty handed…not cool! Give them a gift they would actually use and enjoy. Like these tiny love-themed jewelry dishes.
Remember, Galentines really isn’t only for the Gal’s in your life. At it’s gooey heart, Galentine’s day is really a celebration of friendship and the people who stick by your side as romantic relationships come and go. Like Valentine’s, the day is meant to show the most important people in your life how much you care about them. It may be corny. It may be cheesy. But that’s what makes it great!
Here are just a few of my Gal’s who have written amazing Valentine’s Day series blog posts that are a MUST READ!
