Parks & Rec: How Old April & Andy Are At The Beginning & End (2024)

April and Andy are one of the most popular pairs from Parks & Recreation, and here’s how old they are at the beginning and end of the series. Created by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur, Parks & Recreation made its debut on NBC in 2009, and even though it didn’t have a good start, the writers eventually found the right tone for it, andthe series lived on for six more seasons, coming to an end in 2015.

Parks & Recreation follows the daily lives of the always optimistic Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and her friends and co-workers from the Parks Department in Pawnee, Indiana. Over the course of seven seasons, viewers got the chance to really know Leslie’s close friends, and a pair that became a fan-favorite was that of April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza) and Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt). Parks & Recreation saw the evolution of their relationship as well as their personal development, with the pair going from a really immature couple to parents of two kids and with jobs they were actually passionate about – so, how old were they through all that?

While there are some characters in Parks & Recreation who take privacy very seriously (as is Ron Swanson’s case), others are more open with their personal information. In April and Andy’s case, their ages are mentioned a couple of times throughout the series, especially when they are starting to feel attracted to each other. First off, April began as an intern at the Parks Department, and in season 1 it’s mentioned that she’s 19-years-old, and celebrates her 20th birthday in that same season. Unlike other TV shows, Parks & Recreation takes place in the same year each season was released (except for the last one, as there was a time jump), and if April was 20-years-old in 2009, this means she was born in 1989. By the end of the show, then, as season 7 was set in 2015, April was 26, and in each future timeline, she is 33, 34, 36, and 46.

In season 2, when Andy and April start to have feelings for each other, Andy asks Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) for advice, as he wanted to know “what’s the youngest a girl could be” so they could go out without looking bad. When doing the math, he sayshe’s 29, and Parks & Recreation season 2 is set in 2010. That means Andy was born in 1981, and when viewers met him after he fell into the pit in season 1, he was 28. In the final season of Parks & Recreation, Andy was 34, and in the flash-forwards (set in 2022, 2023, 2025, and 2035) he is 41, 42, 44, and 54. April and Andy became parents in 2023, when they were 34 and 42, and again when they were 36 and 44. Although they don’t show up in the 2048 timeline, where Leslie and Ben attend Jerry’s funeral, it’s worth mentioning that April would be 59 and Andy 67.

The story of April and Andy resonated with the audience, and their carefree lifestyle and fun weirdness made them not only fan-favorites but also two of the most unforgettable characters inParks & Recreation. In the end, April and Andy did grow up and became more responsible, but they never lost that essence that made them so unique.
