When summer school starts in 2024 in NYC, DOE? ›

Generally, Summer Rising programs will run Monday through Friday, from July 2–August 16, 2024, with scheduling depending on students' current grade level.

Each term is 15 weeks and consists of 12 weeks of scheduled classes; an 8–9-day reading period for preparation of final coursework and, by the instructor's choice, continued instruction; and a 7-day final exam period, with 2 additional days set aside for senior comprehensive exams in the spring term.

A new year is upon us and it comes complete with an extra day. Unlike most years, which have 365 days, 2024 is a leap year, which means it has 366 days.

(Students in D75 and ESY programming will receive busing for the duration of their IEP program: July 2–August 12 for ESY and July 3–August 13 for D75). Eligible students must have enrolled in summer programming by May 13 in order to receive a bus route in time for July 2.

As of Aug 19, 2024, the average hourly pay for a Summer School Teacher in New York City is $35.12 an hour.

For high school students who are attending summer school, courses will also start one week earlier and will run from Monday, July 6 – Friday, August 14. There is no change to the duration or structure of this program either.

Just as important as our formal program, the weekend also gives you an opportunity to spend time with your student as they share their college experience with you, introduce you to their friends and show you around our beautiful campus.

Leap years help to keep the 12-month calendar matched up with Earth's movement around the Sun. After four years, those leftover hours add up to a whole day. In a leap year, we add this extra day to the month of February, making it 29 days long instead of the usual 28.
