Why the marshmallow challenge?

The marshmallow challenge (which I’m about to share with you, so don’t go anywhere!) teaches people collaboration, how to be innovative and creative, and it shows people how they truly work together. It will reveal strengths and opportunities for growth. What more could you want for a healthy, effective team?

What is the marshmallow challenge?

The challenge is to build the tallest free-standing structure with a marshmallow on top! This is lots of fun when you have multiple teams competing against each other, but you can also do this with just a single team. You can get great information about how the team works together when they do this challenge.

What materials do you need for the marshmallow challenge?

You need to give EACH team:

  • 20 dry spaghettis
  • Masking tape (1 yard or 1 metre)
  • String (1 yard or 1 metre)
  • Scissors
  • 1 big marshmallow

What you need as a facilitator:

  • Stopwatch
  • Measuring tape

Details and Instructions

Obviously, as any good facilitator would do, you need to give your team clear instructions and you yourself need to be aware about the details and rules of the challenge. That’s why I myself have made a video where I explain to you everything you need to know about the marshmallow challenge so that you can do it with YOUR team. So, if you like what you’ve read so far and are interested in trying out the challenge with your team, then meet me over on YouTube for a few short minutes to get the rest of the info to make the marshmallow challenge a SUCCESS!
