Where Is Yamato in Boruto? Is He Dead? (2024)

Yamato is a member of the ANBU and a Konohagakure ninja of the same rank as Kakashi Hatake. He appears during the second part of the anime. In addition, he was the temporary leader of Team 7. His real name is unknown. Among the characters introduced in Shippuden, Yamato is certainly one of the most interesting ones, which is why we are writing this article for you. Namely, in it, we are going to tell you what actually happened to Yamato and what he is doing in Boruto.

Yamato did not die in Naruto or Boruto. He was in a very difficult situation near the end of the Fourth Great War when his body was used to power up the Zetsu Army, and he eventually ended up inside Tobi’s body. Still, after Madara activated the Infinite Tsukuyomi, he was freed and discarded by Tobi, but he survived. In Boruto, he is seen following Orochimaru, with whom he has a deep and personal connection.

The remainder of this article will give you a detailed overview of Yamato’s fate on the pages of the Naruto manga, as well as its two-part anime adaptation, titled Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden (although Yamato was present only in the second one), and, of course, the Boruto manga. You already know what happened and how it happened, so we will just bring you the details, so you know the whole context. Be careful, though, as the article is going to contain a lot of spoilers, so if you don’t know all the details, be careful how you approach the text.

Does Yamato die in Naruto?

Shortly after his birth, Yamato was kidnapped by Orochimaru to be used in his experiments. Orochimaru implanted the DNA of the First Hokage in Yamato and 59 other children in hopes that he could replicate the Shodai Hokage’s abilities to use Wood Release and control Tailed Beasts. Orochimaru fled Konohagakure after all the other children died and his experiment was discovered.

Yamato, the last survivor, resigned himself to using his body’s natural ability to grow wood and manipulate it. He successfully completed the ninja academy when he was six years old. He took part in and successfully completed the Chunin selection exam the same year. Sai, Anko Mitarashi, and Yamato are tasked with finding Kabuto Yakushi at some point in the story. When they find Naruto, the chakra of the Nine-Tails has exploded from him, and the number “six” appears on his hand, indicating that he already owns six tails. However, Yamato is astonished to see the “eight” a short while later. Yamato assumes that everything will be over when the “Nine” arrives.

But while Naruto was unconscious, the Fourth Hokage stopped him from removing the last seal of the Ninth Tail. Yamato immediately departs toward Konoha. As he rebuilds Pain’s completely wrecked Konoha, Yamato uses his jutsu to construct multiple rows of dwellings at once. After seeing several Kumo-Nin and Danzou agreeing that Sasuke should be killed, Naruto wishes to meet the Raikage. After talking with him for a little while, Kakashi decides that he and Yamato will accompany Naruto. Yamato travels to the Konoha library to gather all the information about Sasuke from the Kumo-Nin that are residing there.

Before the door, he scatters some of his spy seeds, and as the Kumo-Nins exit the library, one of them steps on one of them. Soon after, Kakashi, Yamato, and Naruto start to chase the three Kumo-Nin who are making their way to the Raikage. When they finally meet, Naruto kneels before him and begs him to spare Sasuke.

However, the Raikage diminishes. After their unsuccessful encounter with the Raikage, the three Konoha-Nin check into a lodging in a nearby town. Tobi appears out of nowhere, shocking everyone, and requests to talk with Naruto to find out how he convinced Nagato to betray Akatsuki. Immediately, Naturo swings the Rasengan at Tobi, but Yamato stops him. Yamato bonds Tobi with his Wood Release: Jubaku no Jutsu and then constructs a wooden lattice wall in front of Naruto to divide the two.

Tobi, who he claims was only after information from Naruto and wasn’t looking for a battle, succumbs to his seduction and ends up telling him a tale about Sasuke and Itachi as well as the actual events involving Rikudou Sennin and his direct successors, the Senju, and the Uchiha clan. The next day, Lee, Kiba, and Sai join Sakura for a talk at Naruto’s location; shortly after they leave, Naruto faints. Kakashi accompanies Sakura and the others, while Yamato stays with Naruto so that he can be taken back to Konoha once he has healed. Naruto is secretly transferred to an island in the Blitz kingdom under false pretenses so he won’t learn about the upcoming battle with Akatsuki.

Yamato is among the shinobi who go with him to the island. While there, with a little help from Killer B, Naruto learns how to control the chakra of the Kyuubi. Yamato To ensure that he can control the Kyuubi if it spins out of control, Naruto never leaves his side. Just as Naruto is able to master the chakra of the Kyuubi, there is a brief battle between Maito Gai and Kisame Hoshigaki, who was previously believed to be dead. After Maito wins, Kisame is taken prisoner.

Aoba Yamashiro will then interrogate Kisame. After successfully conveying to Akatsuki the locations of Naruto and Killer B, Kisame commits suicide to protect the vital information. Later, Kabuto Yakushi shows up on the island and manages to kidnap Yamato, carrying him to Akatsuki’s stronghold and then using a special poison to render him immobile. The Hashirama clone statue, which he eventually imprisons Yamato in, is said to bolster the Zetsu army.

They could have killed Yamato once he finished his assignment, but instead, they kept him alive and hanged him beside the Hashirama clone for later use. Later, his body was imprisoned inside Tobi’s, who allegedly used Yamato’s altered DNA to fuel his own Wood Release. As Tobi had no additional use for him, Yamato was ultimately set free from Tobi’s body when Madara detonated the Infinite Tsukuyomi, leaving him unconscious. Despite not being killed, he later appeared before Tobi and watched as he broke.

During the Blank Period, he was assigned to spy on Orochimaru, but that is a completely different story for us to tell.

What happened to Yamato in Boruto?

After Orochimaru was pardoned for all of his past crimes, Yamato was chosen, alongside a surveillance team, to watch over him in case he attempted again to act against the Five Great Nations. During this period, Yamato was told not to contact Orochimaru unless such an incident happened directly. Yamato was informed by Kakashi about a piece of information sent by Sasuke about a boy with a Sharingan and that he would meet with Naruto and Sasuke.

Once they gathered outside Orochimaru’s lair, Yamato asked Naruto to stop calling him captain since he didn’t want the Hokage to refer to him like that. However, Naruto refuses due to always being captain to him. Yamato tells them that he had already heard most of the story, thanks to Kakashi, but that he could not take another step, choosing to stay out of place since if something happened, he had to chase Orochimaru, besides that now they had Sasuke, so it must have been easier than last time; next, they enter the lair.
