Pineapple Dump Cake Recipe

Easy to make – delicious, moist, fruit-filled, and nutty. What more could you ask from a dessert?

Another great thing about dump cakes is that you can change things up simply by substituting 1 can of fruit for a different type of canned fruit.

I hope you’ll give this combination a try. It’s an older combination from a church recipe book. My family loves the applesauce and pineapple combination.

I think coconut flakes would also be a wonderful addition to this cake flavor.

  • cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple
  • strawberry pie filling and peach pie filling
  • peach pie filling and apple pie filling

I know it said not to mix together, but I had just sprinkled the cake over the pineapple, not spread and it didn’t turn out. was I supposed to spread/ mix the cake in? was still just dry cake mix.

Oh bummer! Just Dry Cake Mix? That stinks! I’m so sorry that it didn’t turn out. To answer your question, I did not mix the cake in. I just gently spread it out over the top of the crushed pineapple. I don’t think sprinkling the cake mix over it would have been a problem either. Just to be sure…I looked at some other recipes on the web that are similar to this one and two out of three just sprinkled it. The other spread it over the filling. Did you pour the melted butter over the top and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees? I’m so upset that it didn’t turn out for you. 🙁 It’s such a fun cake.

I’m including the links to the other Dump Cake Recipes. Maybe you’ll see something in those that will help.

Do you think this would work for cupcakes? Does the pan help crisp it up in a way that a cupcake couldn’t?
It sounds so easy and delicious!

I’m really not sure that it would work for cupcakes. It’s kind of a cake and a pie all miked into one dessert. The crust is on top and the filling is on the bottom. If you do try it, make sure that you spread the ingredients out evenly between each cupcake. I would also use liners. Definitely come back and let us know how it went. 🙂

Could I make this in a crockpot?

You can convert almost any oven recipe into a crockpot recipe. I’ll provide a couple of links that will help you with the conversion time from oven to crock pot and several other helpful tips. The time will go from one hour to about 4 hours on high, you’ll want to make sure the size of the slow cooker is compatible with the amount of batter you are placing in for your baking times. Larger crock pots are better than smaller ones for most cake batters. Another tip when baking cakes in crock pot is to place a paper towel under the lid to absorb the excess moisture. That way your cake can bake evenly and won’t get too soggy. Here are the links I promised to help you get a better understanding of baking in your Slow Cooker. 🙂 http://www.slowcookercentral.com/converting-ovenstove-recipes-slow-cooking-recipes/ and https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/dessert/other-dessert/oven-or-stove-top-to-crock-pot.html

Applesauce layer creates an unappetizing texture.

I can understand that the applesauce texture isn’t for everybody. Thanks for trying it, anyway.

I do this but this is my version. Golden delicious apples peeled and sliced thin vs applesauce. I use from 3 to 5 depending on taste. My family like the cake topping the most so typically 3. I place the apples in a buttered dish, pour a can of crushed pineapple with half juice drained on top of apples (I use pineapples in juice, not syrup but that’s up to you). For the topping, I use one box butter cake mix, half to whole stick butter and chopped pecans. I mix this to a crumble topping, not too dry, not too doughy, about half a stick l will get you there but I add alot of pecans so I use a little more butter. Not much. Crumble topping over fruit. Bake at 350 until golden. 👌🏾

can you make it with 2 cans of crushed pinapple instead of applesauce?

    1. Pineapple Dump Cake Recipe with Applesauce (24)

      Melissa December 7, 2020Reply

Yes. You can definitely do that. It’s usually a cake mix, and 2 cans of some filling – like pie filling or crushed pineapple.

I made this tonight. I really liked it but I might cook it longer than an hour next time, it was very wet. I also used salted butter (it was what I had) and I liked the bit of salt to cut the sweet.

I think the salt would be delicious. Yum! Thank you for letting me know that you liked the recipe. I hope it will turn out better for you next time. I wonder if it’s the applesauce causing it to stay too moist(?).
