Queen Essence is a blue-skinned Funk Troll with a purple nose. Her neck fur has bands of thick silver tinsel segments, matching the long silver and golden tinsel-like fur that covers her body. Her blue hair is fashioned into dreads and styled back behind her head. She wears a golden tiara, and a matching band that secures her hair at the nape of her neck. Her face is covered in glitter and she has thick sparkly silver eyelashes. Essence's height is greater than the majority of the Funk Trolls, being only shorter than her husband.

Personality

Queen Essence is described as a cool and calm ruler with a prudent leadership who has managed to help her subjects with getting out of sticky situations over the years. She's also a loving mother, as evidenced by how she affectionately kissed her son Cooper's cheek six times while leaving sparkly blue lipstick after they reunited, and was immensely proud of her sons making music after it seemed that all music had been destroyed. Essence and Quincy are the most traditionally "regal" of the Tribal monarchs, holding themselves in high dignity as King and Queen.
Although she and her family are aware of the wrongs done by the ancient Pop Trolls, she (and they) don't hold those misdeeds against Queen Poppy, as they take the time to enlighten her of the truth of why the Troll Tribes live in isolation and that differences do matter by pointing out why their strings are different: because they reflect the Tribes' different music genres.
It's Essence who comes to the realization, after seeing her sons make music themselves, that music comes from the heart and is something that no one can take away.

She harbored no disdain for Poppy, though she shared a different opinion with her when it came to the Tribes' unification.
Queen Barb[]
Prior to her attack, she was cautious of Barb, during Just Sing. She seemed fine with her in the ending credits of Don't Slack despite that.

King Quincy[]
Quincy is Essence's husband and for the most part they are on good terms with each other. Essence supports her husband, and looks upon the every day running of Vibe City and the concern for her Tribe, leaving much of the family matters to her husband, such as the search for Cooper until he was found.
Prince D[]
Essence and Quincy were thoughtful of their remaining son Prince D, and careful with their approach on the subject of his missing twin. She's seen putting her head together to his in Just Sing.
Cooper[]
Essence and Quincy lost Cooper before he hatched, and were searching for him ever since. When introduced, Essence smothered Cooper with kisses to show affection for the return of her son when talking about it with Poppy, Branch and Hickory.
Other[]
Cooper mentions having an uncle in Trolls who broke his neck while tapdancing. However, since Cooper was not aware of his status of being a Funk Troll, Cooper's uncle is likely adoptive. In the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "Fastest Draw in the West", Cooper mentioned his cousins Eddy and Freddy. Similar to the situation with his uncle, it is unknown if they are adoptive Pop Trolls or from his Funk Troll family and therefore related to Essence.

She's seen using a 3-string bass guitar; its middle string was the purple string of Funk, which she aided her husband in protecting until it was destroyed.

- The lack of the 4th string is an uncommon type of bass. 3-string basses are often custom-made and usually don't have the "G" note, which is the "treble" range note in bass guitars. This makes the player have access only to the "D", "A" and "E" notes; the advantage of this is that it allows for faster fretting.
- In her hand poster for Trolls World Tour, she's represented with a normal 4-fingered hand. However, as a quadrupedal Funk Troll, she only has 3 digits per limb.
